Bitcoin Cash
Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is a cryptocurrency that was created in August 2017 as a result of a hard fork of Bitcoin. The move was motivated by dissatisfaction among a portion of the Bitcoin community with the limited scalability, high transaction fees, and slow transaction confirmation times on the original Bitcoin blockchain. The main goal of Bitcoin Cash was to allow more transactions in a single block by increasing the block size from 1 MB to 8 MB, which was later expanded to 32 MB.
Bitcoin Cash is designed as a peer-to-peer digital cash system that focuses on reducing transaction fees and improving transaction speed. Unlike Bitcoin, which has become more of a store of value similar to digital gold, Bitcoin Cash aims to be a practical payment system for everyday transactions. Bitcoin Cash’s transaction fees are generally lower and confirmation times are significantly shorter, allowing for fast and cheap money transfers.
Bitcoin Cash also underwent its own hard fork in 2018, resulting in the creation of two separate chains: Bitcoin Cash ABC (now known as Bitcoin Cash) and Bitcoin SV (Satoshi’s Vision). This fork was the result of disagreements within the community regarding the future direction of the cryptocurrency, particularly regarding block sizes and the implementation of various technological improvements.
BCH uses the same Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism as Bitcoin, meaning it can be mined. The mining process involves solving complex mathematical problems that confirm transactions and add new blocks to the blockchain. However, mining is computationally intensive and requires specialized hardware such as ASIC miners.
Bitcoin Cash is traded on most major cryptocurrency exchanges, including Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, and KuCoin. Despite its technical improvements and higher transaction capacity, Bitcoin Cash has struggled with lower adoption compared to Bitcoin. Many merchants and online platforms still prefer to accept payments in Bitcoin, which limits the everyday use of BCH as a means of payment.
Bitcoin Cash’s price history is full of significant fluctuations. After its inception, its price rose rapidly, reaching an all-time high of around $4,355 in December 2017. However, subsequent bear markets have significantly reduced the price, and since then BCH has traded in a range of $200 to $500, with occasional fluctuations during overall market rallies.
Bitcoin Cash has an active community of developers and supporters who believe in its potential as an efficient payment system. Furthermore, BCH strives to remain true to its original vision of a decentralized currency without the need for third-party intervention.
